Electric Gamebox is Expanding with $11M Funding Round

Dallas Morning News – Dom DiFurio – June 11, 2021 – DMN Article Link

Dallas’ Electric Gamebox is the digital escape roomlike experience you’re about to see everywhere

The company just announced an $11 million funding round to fuel its expansion, which will include opening three more Texas locations this year.

Electric Gamebox, which has a single U.S. venue in the Dallas area, will have locations in major metropolitan regions around the country over the next five years.

The company announced that it raised $11 million in its latest funding round, bringing its total capital raised to date to $25 million. Electric Gamebox plans to use that funding for a “bold” expansion that will see more than 1,000 Electric Gamebox venues open around the world by 2026.

It expects more than 100 of those venues to land in major U.S. metro areas over the next five years, and it plans to open locations in San Antonio, Houston and Austin by the end of this year. The company also has three venues in the U.K., where it’s headquartered globally.

Electric Gamebox is an immersive group gaming platform where as many as six people can play as a team to overcome challenges and solve puzzles. But there are no clunky virtual reality headsets — the entire game takes place in a private, white room in which the game environment is projection-mapped across the walls. Players wear small visors that track their motion and location in relation to objects in the game.

Game sessions must be booked ahead and can last 60 minutes and range from $10 to $35 per person.

Electric Gamebox opened its first U.S. location in The Colony in Grandscape. It plans to open three more locations in Texas this year as it expands internationally.

The company is also searching for a corporate headquarters location in Dallas to support its growth. It expects to expand its team of 50 employees to a few hundred by the end of 2021.

Why North Texas? The region is the home of U.S. location-based entertainment, founder and CEO Will Dean said. It’s home to movie theater chain Cinemark as well as other experiential entertainment companies like Dave & Buster’s, Main Event and Topgolf.

Dean, who co-founded the world famous Tough Mudder team obstacle race, started Electric Gamebox with the idea of creating an experience that challenged people of all ages.

“My criteria for my next business after Tough Mudder was kind of twofold. It didn’t have to be curing cancer, but I had to believe it was making a positive difference in the world … and you know, I really like the idea of using technology to bring people together,” Dean said.

Dean likens the mechanics and setup of Electric Gamebox to an escape room, but the company is also developing other games. It has six different game scenarios and plans to have at least 100 over the next five years. In one of the current games, tech billionaires start a colony on Mars and players have to mine “Elonomium” — a clever play on Elon Musk’s name — to build the largest colony possible.

Dean said the company was pleasantly surprised to learn recently that Electric Gamebox has been a hit with families that have children on the autism spectrum.

“It’s quite humbling when you have a family come in … and you’ll have a mother say, ‘There’s nothing that we as a family can all enjoy together; this has been quite game-changing for us as a family.’ And, ‘This is something we look forward to all week.’ ”

The Electric Gamebox venue in The Colony’s Grandscape has been fully booked on weekends since it opened in December, Dean said. And that’s despite the pandemic.

“It’s very socially distant,” Dean said.

The games are targeted toward all age groups and are family friendly, but they’ve also been popular for corporate team-building events. Dean said he expects to see even more corporate event bookings in September as companies return to in-person work.

Halcyon Coffee Bar + Lounge Expands to Dallas

Falcon Realty Advisors has advised Austin-based coffee and cocktail bar on first Dallas location

Dallas, March 20, 2017 – Dallas-based Falcon Realty Advisors has advised Halcyon Coffee Bar + Lounge on a five-year, 3,600-square foot lease for its first location in the concept’s expansion to Dallas. Halcyon Coffee Bar + Lounge has officially opened at 2900 Greenville Avenue, formerly the location of Cafe Brazil for the past ten years. Michael Walters, President of Falcon’s Restaurant & Entertainment Group, and Madison Partners’ Jon Hetzel negotiated the deal.

“It was important to Falcon to understand Halcyon’s vision and find a space that catered to their versatile coffee and cocktail lounge concept, while also capturing the authenticity of their brand,” said Walters. “The location we secured has accomplished that – the building’s architecture has a unique story and the neighborhood surrounding Greenville Avenue is incredibly energetic.”

Founded in 2001 by partners John Long and Kris Hardy, the Austin-based coffee bar and lounge has a location in San Antonio and San Diego.

“We love the lower Greenville community and Halcyon’s coffee shop and cocktail bar fusion concept had yet to exist in the area. Unlike many coffeehouse interiors that are outfitted with dark wood and metal, Halcyon’s design aesthetic is bright and playful,” said Kris Hardy, Co-Owner of Halcyon Coffee Bar + Lounge. “Moving into a new city is exciting and also nerve-racking, but we’re confident our first Dallas store will expand upon the success we’ve been able to achieve in Austin and elsewhere over the last 15 years.”

In addition to Halcyon’s staple menu consisting of coffee, alcoholic beverages, snacks, salads, sandwiches and dessert, the Dallas menu will also feature flatbreads and an expanded brunch menu.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken Expands to Atlanta

Exclusive representative Falcon Realty Advisors has advised Nashville-based concept on first Atlanta location in its expansion

Dallas, December 8, 2016 – Dallas-based Falcon Realty Advisors has advised Nashville-based Hattie B’s Hot Chicken on a 2,800-square foot lease for its first Atlanta location in the concept’s expansion. Expected to open late 2017, Hattie B’s will be located just south of Little Five Points at 299 Moreland Ave., which was originally occupied by a 1950s era iconic Phillips 66 gas station. Cal Marsh, Director of National Restaurant Accounts with Falcon’s Restaurant & Entertainment Group, and Ed lee of Capital Properties Group negotiated the deal with Knight Commercial Real Estate.

“Expanding to Atlanta was an easy decision as Hattie B’s has not only made waves among the communities it currently resides in, but among renowned industry food festivals across the nation – including the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival,” said Marsh. “Hattie B’s requires a space that will align with its fun, high-energy concept and as Hattie B’s exclusive representative in its expansion, Falcon will ensure each location reflects that unique quality.”

Selected as Hattie B’s exclusive representative for the company’s regional growth, Marsh advised on the Moreland Ave. location for its dynamic neighborhood and the ease of accessibility it provides due to the property’s 20 parking spots and the large public lot located next door. The new location will offer seating for 150 diners indoors and outdoors on a partially covered patio and an area for outdoor games such as cornhole.

“The minute we saw the building on Moreland, we knew it was the right spot for Hattie B’s. From the architecture and design, to the energy in the neighborhood, it just felt like the place for us in Atlanta,” said co-owner and co-operator Nick Bishop, Jr.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is a family-owned business, owned and operated by father-and-son team, Nick Bishop, Sr. and Nick Bishop, Jr. The restaurant first opened in Midtown Nashville in August 2012 and currently has a total of two locations in Nashville and one in Birmingham, Ala. Hattie B’s is renowned nationally for its Nashville hot chicken served with increasing levels of heat (including “hot,” “damn hot” and “shut the cluck up!!!”) and was recently ranked sixth on the The Daily Meal’s list of America’s 75 Best Fried Chicken Spots.

Falcon’s Restaurant and Entertainment Group represents many flourishing emerging brands, such as Hopdoddy Burger Bar, Pink Taco, Publico Kitchen & Tap, Modern Market and Bulla Gastrobar. Other clients in Falcon’s impressive portfolio consist of top chain retailers, including Whole Foods, Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Twin Peaks and iPic Theaters.
